Texas Hold'em
In Texas Hold'em the "dealer button" indicates who is the dealer. The deal
moves clockwise between the players. Texas Hold'em is played with two blinds,
the "small blind" and the "big blind". Before any cards are dealt the blinds
must be posted. The player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind and
the next player in turn posts the big blind. Players receive two cards face down
(also called holecards), after which there is a round of betting.
In this round the player to the left of the big blind is first to act. After
that there will be three community cards dealt face up on the board, called the
flop, and another round of betting occurs. This betting round the "small blind"
starts the action. Then another community card, "the turn" or "fourth street"
will be dealt, and another round of betting occurs. Finally the last community
card, "the river" or "fifth street", will appear on the board. The last round of
betting occurs.
If no more betting takes place there is a showdown to determine the winner.
The players are allowed to use one or two of their hole cards, but they can also
"play the board" meaning that they can use all five cards on the board.
